Meet The Dog Trainer
Hi, my name is Dorotea Rivera-Field, CPDT-KA, but you can call me Dot. I am the owner and founder of Dot's Dog Training & Pet Services and have been professionally training dogs and teaching people the building blocks to a better relationship with their dogs since 2005.
My Mission is to provide you with dog training and behavior solutions where the leash is not the only thing connecting you to your dog. I aim to improve how you communicate with your dog and help you strengthen your bond so you can enjoy a happier life together.
My Training approach is fun, humane, and science based. I am committed to using dog training and behavior modification techniques without the use of pain, force, fear, or intimidation. I believe that just because we can doesn't mean we should. After all, "effectiveness is not enough". This is why I follow the principles of LIMA (Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive), in other words, "first, do no harm". To learn more about the LIMA Principle please click here.
My professional background includes an internship with a certified professional dog trainer, many hours of volunteer work with a shelter helping evaluate incoming dog's behavior, and several years of volunteer work with rescue groups. I have trained dogs in private sessions and group classes for over a decade. I have also attended seminars, workshops, and courses offered by leading animal behavior experts, including completing and graduating from Dr. Susan Friedman's Living and Learning with Animals Course for Veterinary and Animal Professionals in 2015. I have a firm commitment to continuing education and professional development. This is why I continue to attend seminars, workshops, and conferences throughout the years given by leaders in the field such as Dr. Susan Friedman, Kathy Sdao, Ken Ramirez, and Pat Miller.
